The Flax of Olden Days: Flaxseed, a tiny brown seed cultivated from a beautiful blue flowering crop is loaded with nutritional properties and has been valued since ancient times. As far back as 3,000 B.C., flax was grown for the fiber properties as evidenced in the hieroglyphics in the ancient burial chambers, as well as by the clothing found there. In fact, the latin name for flaxseed is "linum usitatissimum" which of course, gives us linen. Around 650 B.C. Hippocrates, the “Father of Medicine” wrote about using flax for the relief of abdominal discomfort. Additionally, around the 8th Century, King Charlemagne believed in the health benefits of flax so strongly he passed laws requiring its regular consumption. Even Mahatma Gandhi praised the benefits of flax, having been quoted as saying “Wherever flax seed becomes a regular food item among the people, there will be better health.” The importation of flax to Canada is credited to farmer Louis Hébert almost 400 years ago in 1617 and by 1875 flax was readily grown in the prairie provinces in Western Canada. Canadian flax production has steadily increased over the years and since 1994, Canada has been the world's leader in the production and exportation of flax. New and Improved Natunola® health's delight Shelled Flax - Flax in HD! What makes Natunola® health’s delight flax so unique? While flax packs a heavy nutritional punch, whole flaxseed is not digestible in the human body due to its hard outer shell and when consumed in its original state, normally passes undigested through the body. Until now, to absorb the nutritional benefits of flax, people have had to grind flaxseed up, usually in a coffee grinder. The process of grinding flaxseed results in the flax oil, found inside the inner kernel, being released from the kernel. Flax oil is very unstable and by disturbing the oil by grinding, ground flax goes rancid quickly, in some cases as little as a few weeks and can result in a bitter taste. Natunola Health Inc., together with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada has developed a revolutionary patented technology to shell flax. Shelling flax is a unique process which separates the outer brown shell from the inner yellow kernel and allows for the digestion of all the nutrients in this amazing little seed, putting an end to the inconvenience of having to ‘grind your own’! In fact, this amazing new technology is so effective in containing the flax oil inside the kernel we guarantee a nine month shelf life with no refrigeration required - and it tastes great!
